Suggested Reading List
Below is a list of books that I personally recommend to anyone who is interested in either beginning to read Tarot or looking to broaden their experience. Most are available from Llewellyn Books or Amazon. As my library grows, so will this list, so check back!
The
Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot by Arlene Tognetti and Lisa Lenard,
published 1999 by Alpha Books. ISBN 0-02-862737-7
Don't let the title throw you off! This is one of the best
books I have encountered, especially if you're just starting out.
The
Complete Book of Tarot Reversals by Mary K. Greer, published 2002 by
Llewellyn Publishing. ISBN 1-56718-285-2
Even if you don't read reversals, this book gives excellent
insight and exercises regarding one of Tarot's most challenging aspects.
The
Complete Tarot Reader by Teresa C. Michelsen, published 2005 by Llewellyn
Publishing. ISBN 0-7387-0434-2
Written by one of the best-known writers in the field, this
book is indispensable to the beginner.
Designing
Your Own Tarot Spreads by Teresa C. Michelsen, published 2003 by Llewellyn
Publishing. ISBN 0-7387-0263-3
For Tarot practitioners who are looking to explore the
possibilities of making their own spreads, customizing them for insight and
information they need.
Tarot
Tips by Ruth Ann and Wald Ambertone, published 2003 by Llewellyn Publishing.
ISBN 0-7387-0216-1
For beginner and experienced practitioners alike! Packed with
helpful hints on subjects as far-ranging as Court cards, reversals, reading for
oneself, spreads and card combinations. Compiled by the Amberstones, who run the
Tarot School in NYC.
The Tarot Workbook by Kathleen McCormack,
published 2002 by Quarto, Inc. ISBN 0-7641-2227-4.
I believe this book is out of print, which is unfortunate,
because I found the exercises extremely helpful. It is especially good at
helping the novice reader to look at the cards as a story, rather than
individual cards. Look for it in Coles
Bookstores, as that's where I found my copy.
