About Me

Born in the Niagara Peninsula of southern Ontario, I have been an amateur historian from the time I could read. My first and most enduring fascination is with the Napoleonic conflict that we know as the War of 1812, but I also have a soft spot for the early Middle Ages as well.

In 1987, I joined the Society for Creative Anachronism in order to pursue my interest in medieval history and society, where I served in a number of capacities including Seneschal, Chatelaine, lady-in-waiting and even Court Fool.

When time and finances permit, I work on my English degree, which I am taking through correspondence at the Athabasca Open University. English literature is another of my passions, and some of my favourite authors include the Brontes, Jane Austen, Anthony Trollope, Margaret Atwood, John Steinbeck and Jeanette Winterson.

Among my other interests are photography (especially of cemeteries and unusual urban settings), home brewing and historical miniatures. Together with my partner and a seriously demanding cat named Tristan (or Shitty Kitty), and a Jack Russell Terrier named Scooter, I now reside in Edmonton, Alberta.
